NAS JRB New Orleans Hosts Night Out Against Crime
BELLE CHASSE, La. — Base security and emergency response personnel joined forces with regional law enforcement agencies Oct. 13 for the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans Security Department’s annual Night Out Against Crime.
The event highlighted the base’s security posture while strengthening ties between military security forces, installation residents, and neighboring law enforcement agencies.
National Night Out Against Crime is an annual community-building campaign designed to bolster police-community partnerships and heighten crime prevention awareness.
“Tonight is about promoting police camaraderie here in the community at NAS JRB New Orleans,” said Maj. Miranda Dede, a police instructor at the installation. “It’s to let the community know that we and our partners outside the fenceline are here to protect them.”
A “Parade of Blue” featuring base and local emergency vehicles launched the evening’s activities. Attendees gathered for meet-and-greet sessions with security forces and patrol officers, games, informational booths, food vendors, and demonstrations by the base’s military working dog handlers and the NAS JRB New Orleans Fire and Emergency Services team.
Demonstrating unified regional cooperation, several external law enforcement agencies participated in the event, including Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, New Orleans Police Department and Louisiana State Police.
“I enjoy events like this because it is a chance to talk with people to ensure the needs are met for security protection,” said NAS JRB New Orleans Security Forces Deputy Director Randolph Thomas Jr. “I’m glad to hear base residents and service members that work on the installation tell me that they feel safe. It’s a pleasure to be able to assist in leading an organization that provides that protection.”
NAS JRB New Orleans is home to 33 active-duty and Reserve tenant commands from the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Army and Coast Guard. As a premier military training destination with direct access to Gulf of America airspace, the air station operates two active runways to support joint-force combat readiness and homeland defense missions.
